Riot Games hack: Source codes of League of Legends and TFT stolen by hackers in latest cyber attack; source code allegedly up for auction

Posted on January 25, 2023 by Dissent

IANS reports:

Riot Games was a victim of a recent cyber attack over the weekend. After an analysis of the attack, Riot Games has revealed that the source code for its popular video games League of Legends and TFT (Teamfight Tactics) were stolen in the recent cyber attack. In addition, the source code of a legacy anti-cheat platform was also stolen by the hackers.

“Over the weekend, our analysis confirmed source code for League, TFT, and a legacy anticheat platform were exfiltrated by the attackers,” the company tweeted.

Vice reported on the ransom demand that had been made.

A listing on a popular forum has now offered the source code in an auction, with the opening bid beginning at $1 million.

The user account offering the source code is not an established account on the hacking forum and only appears to have joined the forum under that account for the purpose of listing the source code. A few members of the forum claim they can vouch for the seller and the source code.

As of publication, there have been no bids or written offers reported.
