The Denver District Attorney’s office has charged two adults suspected of stealing hundreds of people’s identities out of homes, cars, hotels and a local hospital.
Paul Simmons, 46, was charged with one count of identity theft, one count of forgery, possession of forged instruments and one count of theft of medical records.
Dawn Philbin, 51, was charged with four counts of identity theft and one count of theft of medical records.
They face up to 6 years in prison for each of the felonies, according to Lynn Kimbrough, communications director for the Denver District Attorney’s office.
The Denver Police Fugitive Unit arrested Simmons and Philbin last week, after hospital records and real and forged documents, drug paraphernalia, cameras, video recorders and cell phones were found in Simmons’s storage unit in Denver. The contents of his storage unit were put up for auction after he didn’t pay his rent, according to the self-storage facility.
The hospital records belonged to patients at St. Anthony Central who had entered the ER or gone into the hospital for scheduled surgeries in the last year and a half.
