Even though the threat has long been recognized, I can’t remember the last time I saw a case of ID theft from war driving. Here’s one out of Santa Barbara, California:
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department says it has arrested an identity thief who bilked several local residents out of at least $158,000.

Investigators say Ehimika opened fraudulent bank accounts to transfer thousands of dollars from the bank accounts of other residents. They say he chose his victims by going around neighborhoods, and looking for unsecured wireless internet connections. They say stole the identity of at least five residents.
