Miranda Scotland reports:
Construction workers found five boxes of files containing personal information in a garbage Tuesday in Edmonton.
The files from a mortgage broker contained information such as social insurance numbers, credit card information and mortgage values, said Wayne Wood, spokesman for Alberta’s privacy commissioner which is investigating.
There are a lot of people’s information in those boxes and there may be other boxes that are unaccounted for, Wood said. “It’s a pretty serious breach.”
This is the 87th privacy breach reported in Alberta the past 16 months.
