(CORRECTED) QNB hackers to leak more data of another big bank soon – Kaspersky

Posted on May 2, 2016 by Dissent

It sounds like big trouble is brewing for a bank that has yet to be named. Naushad K. Cherrayil reports:

The hackers who attacked Qatar National Bank last week have attacked a second bank and are set to leak more data, a security expert told Gulf News on Monday.

“They have announced that they are going to release data from another big bank dating back to 2001. This data could be used for ransomware. They have said they are going to make it public, either today or tomorrow. We are monitoring it,” said Mohammad Amin Hasbini, senior security researcher, global research and analysis team at Kaspersky Lab Middle East, Turkey and Africa. He said that the hackers have Turkish roots and are known as Bozkurtlar. (SEE CORRECTION BELOW)

CORRECTION: Post-publication, DataBreaches.net was contacted by Kaspersky Lab’s PR team, who wrote:

Unfortunately Amin Hasbini was slightly misquoted- he never claimed that the hackers are Turkish, he said that they COULD BE of Turkish origin. Can you please amend it? Gulf News has amended the information already.
