Jeffrey Ougler reports:
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario has found that Dr. Douglas Brooks committed an act of professional misconduct.
The college charged in June 2015 that the Sault Ste. Marie physician “inappropriately, and without consent,” accessed health records of two patients, and acted as coroner in all, or part, of the investigation into a patient’s death, despite a “real or perceived” conflict of interest due to a “close personal relationship.”
It’s not clear from the report how Sault Area Hospital first became aware of the unauthorized access. Did a fellow employee report a suspicion or did the patient complain? In any event, they investigated and confirmed the breach.
