Jasmine Bamford and Sam Tomlin report:
The operators of a Kalgoorlie gold mine have blamed “human error” after the personal and financial details of several hundred employees were emailed to one of their suppliers.
Staff at Norton Gold Fields have been advised to monitor their bank accounts, with their names, bank details and tax file numbers among the information included in the August 4 email.
A spokesman for the Chinese-owned miner, which operates the Paddington Gold Mine north-west of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, confirmed the leak after enquiries from the ABC.
“The company became aware that personal information regarding its employees had been disclosed to one of it’s suppliers by email,” the spokesman said.
