It’s like throwing away someone’s good name. The Colorado Division of Real Estate removed hundreds of sensitive loan documents left in a dumpster behind a Denver shopping center.
A loan officer found them Friday afternoon and called the state– which immediately removed the files. And now it’s launched an investigation as to who violated state licensing laws requiring these documents be secure.
“What we have here are bunch of appraisals and other loan documents in the dumpster. It’s hard to tell what’s here because it so deep,” says Zachary Urban, with the Colorado Division of Real Estate.
The private information included social security numbers, addresses, phone numbers, even copies of checks. It’s information that could help someone trash people’s identities. “We have people all around here walking by and grab this information,” says Urban.
