So far, it seems like it’s been the worst week of the year for social media platforms in terms of data leaks, with Clubhouse seemingly joining the fray.
Days after scraped data from more than a billion Facebook and LinkedIn profiles, collectively speaking, was put for sale online, it looks like now it’s Clubhouse’s turn. The upstart platform seems to have experienced the same fate, with an SQL database containing 1.3 million scraped Clubhouse user records leaked for free on a popular hacker forum.

Clubhouse did not confirm whether the data were real, but a security vulnerability involving Clubhouse had made the news in February and March, and current thinking is that the data posted online recently does not represent a hack as much as a scrape of publicly available information.
Update: Clubhouse has responded to CyberNews’s reporting, claiming that it is misleading:
“The clubhouse has not been breached or hacked. The data referred to is all public profile information from our app, which anyone can access via the app or our API,” Clubhouse said in a statement on Twitter.
