Slightly more than one year after it managed to avoid an investigation by the ICO over its data protection practices, the University of Hertfordshire joined the ranks of the many educational institutions crippled by a ransomware attack. The attack reportedly occurred on April 14, and was reported on April 15.
As of today, the university has yet to fully restore functioning, with their most recent status updates available on their web site. Most live teaching resumed yesterday (April 19) and Canvas, Teams and Zoom were accessible as normal, but sessions that require remote access to specialist applications might still require rescheduling.
More details about what is restored and what isn’t is available on their web site.
The university has not indicated what kind of ransomware was involved in this attack.
