HHS adds three more incidents to their breach page

Posted on October 29, 2010 by Dissent

HHS has added three more incidents to their breach report web page. Two of the incidents we already had some information about, but one is totally news to me:

Southwest Seattle Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine in Washington reported that a “Hacking/IT Incident” on September 4 affected 9,493 patients. They do not have a web site and I haven’t found any additional information on this incident online.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences reported the theft of the camera containing information on newborns and their families. The incident was originally reported in the news, and the report to HHS reveals that 1,000 patients were affected. I didn’t and don’t find any notice on UAMS’s web site about the incident.

The Keystone/AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plans incident that has attracted a lot of media attention was also reported to HHS. They indicate that 285,691 Medicaid members had data on the device in an incident listed as “loss.”
