A(n Englewood) city man pleaded guilty Monday to participating in a scheme to file false tax returns, using information stolen from adult and pediatric cancer patients, among other victims.
Jason Eaton, 28, told U.S. District Court Judge Dennis M. Cavanaugh in Newark that he participated in the scheme from 2007 to 2009 with a Bronx man and others, using personal information that authorities said was stolen from hospitals, health clinics, nursing homes and doctor’s offices in New York City.
He admitted to using personal information from minors, including birth dates and Social Security numbers, to claim earned income credits and child tax credits through false tax returns filed without permission or knowledge of the children’s parents.
