Monica Rodriguez reports:
POMONA – Cal Poly Pomona has mailed letters to 38 past and present faculty members notifying them that their personal data was accessible by people within the College of Business Administration. The letters were mailed Monday, university spokesman Tim Lynch said.
Instruction and Information Technology personnel have determined the data – names and Social Security numbers for the 38 people – has not been “targeted, copied or will be used for any unlawful purpose,” according to a university news release.
The information could not be accessed via the Internet and was not easily accessible, Lynch said.
A lecturer working in a student lab on Aug. 2 discovered two files on a server could be accessed by faculty members, staffers and students from the College of Business Administration.
