Customers of TotalBank in southern Florida can expect an unwelcome letter in the mail following a compromise of the institution’s computer network. So far, details of the data breach are sketchy but the intrusion into their system appears extensive.
“We recently discovered that an unauthorized individual obtained access to our computer network. Based on that discovery we engaged outside data forensic experts to conduct an investigation. On June 24, 2014, we learned that unauthorized individuals may have obtained access to your personal information which includes your name, address, account number, account balance, and personal identification number (for example, social security number, driver’s license number, passport number, alien registration number),” said a letter signed by President and CEO Luis de la Aguilera.

I have still not been able to reach TotalBank for more details but this morning Law 360 reported that the bank system said the number of client files breached was “more than 70,000.” That data includes SS numbers, bank balances and more.
