ME: Data breach reported at Otto pizza in Portland

Posted on August 22, 2014 by Dissent

J. Craig Anderson reports:

A data breach at Otto in Portland may have resulted in the theft of about 900 customers’ credit card numbers from the local restaurant chain’s two Portland locations, the company said Friday.

Company officials said in a news release that authorities recently notified Otto that it suffered a “point-of-sale” attack that allowed computer hackers access to some customers’ credit card numbers.

The statement on their web site reads:

We regret to inform our customers that we recently discovered a data breach at our Portland locations that may have exposed some of your credit card numbers.

While we are unaware of any reported instances of fraud or misuse, customers who used a credit or debit card at our Portland stores between May 1 and Aug. 13, 2014 are potentially at risk of exposure.

Only our two Portland stores were affected by this incident. Customers who ordered home delivery are not affected. However, we have taken steps to tighten computer security at all of our locations by replacing the hard drives on our credit card terminals, and installing new firewalls and monitoring software. We are confident that customers can feel secure when using their credit or debit cards at all of our OTTO locations.

If you discover any suspicious transactions on your credit card statements, notify your bank or credit card company immediately. You may want to proactively replace your cards with new ones, or change your passwords and pin numbers.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call our special phone line at 1-888-453-4022. We’re here to help.

On behalf of all of us at OTTO, we apologize for this inconvenience and greatly appreciate your continued support.
