A recent audit by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) revealed that the Food and Drug Administration’s (FD) computer network is vulnerable to a potential data breach. The news is especially critical as almost exactly one year ago it was discovered that the FDA’s online submission system was breached by an unauthorized user.
The Oct. 2013 data breach potentially exposed medical data belonging to patients enrolled in clinical trials, as well as names, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and passwords to 14,000 accounts. Of those accounts, approximately 5,000 were active.
According to the recent OIG investigation, several issues were identified.
