Posted on March 13, 2015 by Dissent

Greenville Online reports that The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an identity theft case and the possibility that personnel files from former Westpoint Stevens employees may have been stolen. FoxCarolina adds that law enforcement is asking former employees at the Westpoint Stevens Seneca plant to check their credit reports.

A statement posted today on the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office web site says:

(Walhalla, SC)——————The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is requesting that any former Westpoint Stevens’ employees from the Seneca plant check their credit reports and report any fraudulent activity to the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators are working a case of Identity Theft and have discovered that there is a possibility that personnel files from the West Point Stevens plant in Seneca may have been stolen and used to open fraudulent accounts.

Investigators are asking those individuals to get a free credit report by going to annualcreditreport.com and requesting a copy from one of the credit reporting agencies.

After doing so, if you are the victim of fraud, you are asked to call the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office dispatch and file a report (864-638-4111).
