Noted while reading news…

Reuters reports Scottrade won dismissal of the class action lawsuit against it over the breach disclosed last year.  Some of the previous coverage on the breach and lawsuit can be found on my site, here.

Mille Lacs County Times reports that the county and  former child support investigator Mikki Jo Peterick have agreed to a $1 million payment to settle a potential class action lawsuit alleging the unauthorized access to  a Minnesota Department of Motor Vehicles driver’s license database.  About 270 people had their records allegedly accessed improperly.

AP reports  that authorities in Natrona County, Wyoming, are investigating accusations that a detention officer in the sheriff’s office leaked confidential information about a sexual assault case investigation. Because the information allegedly made its way to the suspect, count this as a potential “small breach, big impact” breach.

The Cointelegraph reports that Steemit announced that about 260 accounts were compromised by a hack. A little less than US$ 85,000 worth of Steem Dollars and Steem are reported to have been stolen.

In the U.K., the Midweek Herald reports that Neil Treanor, a 24-year-old man who hacked into computers to get hold of intimate sex pictures of different women which he posted online and shared with their families and friends, is facing jail. Given that he’s confessed to the crimes, I wonder how long his sentence will be.
