An Ontario Court Justice handed down fines and community service on Tuesday for two people who admitted to taking part in a “massive criminal scheme that violated the privacy of thousands” of maternity patients at hospitals in Scarborough.
Poly Edry was fined $36,000, plus a victim surcharge of $9,000, for her part in the scheme. She must also serve 300 hours of community service and will be on probation for two years.
Her co-accused, Subramanian Sulur, was given the same sentence with a lower fine — $3,000 — and just 150 hours community service due to his age and financial standing, the judge found.
