UK: TalkTalk hacker who blackmailed company chief during year-long cyber crime spree faces jail

Posted on December 13, 2016 by Dissent

While a 17 year-old teen got a rehabilitation order and had his phone confiscated for his role in the TalkTalk hack and other cybercrimes, 19 year-old Daniel Kelley is likely facing real jail time for his role in the TalkTalk hack and other crimes. Emily Pennink and Sam Russell recap the blackmail and other crimes Kelley admitted to at hearing, noting that

Prosecutor Robert Davies said the defendant had also hacked into the website of Coleg Sir Gar, the Welsh college where he was a student.

Kelley’s DDoS – Distributed Denial of Service – attack on his own college computers had interfered with the system at a local hospital nearby, keeping doctors waiting for results.

Maybe he didn’t knowingly intend to interfere with hospital operations, but damn, that is serious.
