Catalin Cimpanu reports:
Russian authorities arrested nine hackers they suspect of being involved in the distribution of the Lurk malware. This is the second wave of arrests after authorities apprehended 50 suspects in May 2016.
The second arrests were reported today by Russian Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk.
Volk said Russian police arrested nine new persons on January 25, in the Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, Tver, and Sverdlovsk regions.
Officials accused the nine of being part of the criminal group that developed the Lurk banking trojan and the Angler exploit kit. Not all suspects are the malware creators, as police said many participated in various roles to the group’s operations. A Russian court ordered the nine to be jailed.
