Hundreds of Southern Illinois Healthcare Patients Potentially Impacted by Insurance Breach

Posted on June 24, 2017 by Dissent

Brad Palmer reports:

Southern Illinois Healthcare is notifying more than 600 patients who might be impacted by a breach of their information.

SIH Privacy Officer Marcia Matthias says it was an isolated incident involving the misdirection of data to other HIPPA-governed [sic] medical facilities by a third party vendor.

SIH has a business relationship with Experian Health, which verifies insurance eligibility during the patient registration process. On April 28, Experian Health notified SIH of a technical error caused by a server migration project, which resulted in the delivery of certain patient insurance information to incorrect medical facilities between February 13 and March 13.
