IA: Fort Dodge Community School District to reopen after cyberattack

Posted on September 11, 2020 by Dissent

KCCI reports:

The Fort Dodge Community School District will be back in session Friday after a cyberattack forced the closure of the school Thursday.

Superintendent Jesse Ulrich confirmed that the district experienced a cyberattack Wednesday.

Ulrich said the attack compromised its phones and internet. The problem has since been resolved.

It is not clear from their statement whether they paid the ransom demand, and the type of ransomware was not mentioned.

Fort Dodge is not the only school district to have been hit with ransomware, as has been noted on this site before.

In related news, DataBreaches.net has been trying to get a response from a Virginia school district whose name appears on a ransomware threat actor’s leak site with some data as proof.  The district has not responded to a phone message left for it yesterday or a contact form inquiry sent last night.  Their web site gives no indication of any problems.
