Not much has been revealed at this point, but Sault St. Marie Police Service has posted a statement disclosing that they have been the victim of a ransomware attack:
Approved by: 361 – August 30, 2021
On Thursday, August 26, 2021 we became aware of a virtual ransomware attack on our systems.
At no time was our ability to respond to calls for service compromised.
Our 9-1-1 system for Emergency calls was not effected. Our business line 705-949-6300, is also accessible for less urgent concerns. Members of the public can still access our Online Reporting system in order to report less urgent crimes.
Information Technology (IT) staff are working through the attack to regain access to effected systems. Our email system is down and there will be a delay responding to requests via email.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
At last check, the incident has not appeared on any of the dedicated leak sites that DataBreaches.net checked.
