17 arrests in NL and 2 in the UK as Operation Cookiemonster takes down Genesis Market; 119 arrested

DutchNews.nl reports:

Seventeen people have been arrested in the Netherlands has part of a global investigation into a hacker market place named Genesis Market which was offering over two million identities for sale. In the Netherlands itself, tens of thousands of people were in ‘acute danger’ of being targeted, Dutch police said. The operation, described as an ‘unprecedented law enforcement operation’ by European police agency Europol, was led by the FBI and Dutch national force.

And in the U.K. Bristol Live reports

Three men from Bristol are currently being investigated as part of an international operation that resulted in the takedown of Genesis Market – a ‘cybercrime store’ that specialised in selling stolen credentials to criminals all over the globe.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that two men from Bristol were arrested in the wake of warrants being carried out by the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit.

A 24-year-old man from Eastville was arrested on suspicion of Computer Misuse Act offences and has been released under investigation. Additionally, a 29-year-old man from Sneyd Park was arrested on suspicion of CMA offences and money laundering and has been released on bail.
