Graybill parts ways with Palomar Health Medical Group following data breach

Posted on September 28, 2024 by Dissent

Rhea Caoile reports:

Graybill Medical Group has terminated its agreement with Palomar Health Medical Group and will go independent beginning November 10.

The decision was prompted by a data security incident that affected PHMG’s system in May. Russell Riehl, PHMG’s interim CEO, confirmed that they received notice from Graybill in August.

Dr. Alejandro Paz, the president of Graybill, said the decision to terminate the company’s agreement with PHMG was difficult.

“But on the other hand, I have to keep considering the importance of providing good care for our patients,” he stated.

Paz said there are still issues from the data security incident, including patients having trouble getting through to make appointments.

Some previous coverage on DataBreaches can be found here. Palomar notified HHS of the incident on July 3, using a “501” marker as the number of patients affected. They have not updated that number to HHS since then. No ransomware group has publicly claimed responsibility for this attack.
