Judge orders release of teen accused in 2023 casino cyberattacks

Posted on September 25, 2025 by Dissent

A 17-year old male who turned himself into the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police last week and was arrested for participating in cyberattacks on two casinos in 2023 has been released to his parents.

Casey Harrison reports that the teen, who has not been named because of his age, was released after  Family Court Judge Dee Smart Butler said the boy is neither a flight risk nor a danger to the community. As a condition of release, the judge ordered that the boy, who lives in the Chicago area, must remain in Clark County under close supervision of his parents, and access to cell phones and electronics is restricted. He is  prohibited from using the internet unless it is for school purposes or he is accompanied by a parent.

The teen faces charges including:

  • three counts of Obtaining and Using Personal Identifying Information of Another Person to Harm or Impersonate Person;
  • one count of Extortion;
  • one count of Conspiracy to Commit Extortion; and
  • one count of Unlawful Acts Regarding Computers.

Prosecutors have indicated that they will be seeking to have him tried as an adult and they will be seeking additional charges against him.

The determination as to whether he will be tried as an adult will be made at a hearing in November.  If the teen is 17 now, he would have been 15 at the time of two casino attacks that occurred between August and October 2023.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Summer Clarke informed the court that the FBI executed search warrants on the teen’s Illinois home in December 2023 and February 2025.
