Two hospitals are reporting breaches involving x-ray films.
WITN reports that a North Carolina hospital, Vidant Pungo Hospital, is sending letters to as many of the 1,100 affected patients as they can find, after paper jackets with old radiology films were accidentally sent out with the trash to a local landfill.The paper jackets contained the name, address, date of birth, age, sex, race and the date and name of the radiology procedure. Meanwhile, El Centro Regional Medical Center in California reports that an unnamed company contracted to digitize, archive and destroy the center’s x-rays defrauded the hospital by not completing the digitization and returning the files to the hospital. The hospital claims the company took the x-rays and possibly destroyed them to extract the silver. Read more on Imperial Valley Press.
