Posted on August 28, 2021 by Dissent

The Times of India reports:

GHAZIABAD: Two people have been booked by Ghaziabad police for allegedly stealing data from a cosmetics company. The accused have also demanded Rs 1 crore from the owner of the company in return of the data.

The accused have been identified as Gaurav Kumar and Sun ii Kumar. Manoj Garg, owner of Shweta trading company located on Meerut road in Ghaziabad, alleged that on August 16, both the accused stole some data in a pen drive from his company. The data included details of his business partners, and family photos.

Rs 1 crore is more than $136,000 USD. One of the two arrested people is a former employee who left the firm a year ago; the other is an accountant at the firm.

Did they really think they would get away with data theft and attempted extortion? In any event, it’s another unfortunate reminder of the risk of insider wrongdoing.
