Jamie Komarnicki reports:
Personal health details may become more vulnerable if proposed changes affecting the provincewide electronic health record system go ahead, according to the Alberta Medical Association.
Patients’ relationships with their doc-tors may also be at risk if feel they can’t trust the privacy of the health information they share with their physician, said the association’s Dr. Christopher Doig, whose group made a presentation to the standing committee on health on Wednesday outlining concerns over amendments to the province’s health information act.
The health bill was referred to the all-party committee for review after second reading in the legislature, said chair Fred Horne.
Stakeholders are raising red flags over the legislation.
According to Doig, one of the changes means that patients can’t control whether their information is made available in the province’s electronic medical record system.
