A security probe has been launched after a memory stick containing details of more than 6,000 prisoners was lost – with the password attached to it.
The USB data stick was lost by a health worker at Preston prison. All 6,360 patients are, or have been, a prisoner at Her Majesty’s Prison Preston.
The memory stick was encrypted, but the password had been attached to the device when it went missing.
Information lost included prisoner’s surnames, prison number, cell location and references to medical conditions such as asthma, mental health and even sexual health references.
