In the justice system:

  • Gordon County authorities have arrested Sharon Kay Hoisington and charged her with two counts of receiving stolen property, and 12 counts of identity fraud. She is also the subject of investigations by the Calhoun Police, Murray County, Whitfield County, Bartow County Sheriff’s Offices, and the Dalton and Cartersville Police Departments. More.
  • Shakiru Olasunkanmi Ajibola faces 170 charges relating to identity theft after he used more 100 fraudulent identities to steal money. He allegedly acquired personal information through a variety of methods including stealing people’s mail. More.
  • Phillip Paul Thomas was arrested on five counts of credit card fraud, three counts of fraudulent/criminal use of personal identification information, scheming to defraud, and grand theft and dealing in stolen property. Thomas was employed at Advance Auto Parts in Fort Meyers and would allegedly use customers’ credit card numbers to purchase merchandise from the store which he would then return for a cash refund.   • Andrea Mackowiak was sentenced to two years in prison and ordered to pay restitution for her role in an identity theft case. Prosecutors say stole personal details from patient account records at an unnamed clinic; the data were used to get phones for prisoners in another state. More.
  • As a follow-up to a case reported previously on this site, Paul Simmons, who kept a storage locker full of hundreds of people’s stolen identities, will spend the next six years in prison. Simmons pleaded guilty two months ago to one count of identity theft and one count of theft of medical records from St. Anthony Central. More.
