St. Lucie’s County Drug Screening Lab notifying more than 14,500 people after discovering multi-year misconfiguration of web portal

St. Lucie’s County Drug Screening Lab offers a variety of types of drug screening St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee and Indian River Counties.

  • Juvenile & Adult Drug Screens
  • Court Related Drug Screens
  • Parent Visitation Screens (parent tests before & after visitation!)
  • Random Drug Screens
  • Pre-employment Drug Screens
  • Employee Drug Screens (reasonable suspicion)
  • Student, Cadet & Athlete Screens
  • Teenager Screens (test your teen to obtain driving privileges!)
  • Post-Accident Drug Screens
  • On Site Specimen Collection & Screening
  • Medical Review Officer Services
  • Specimen Collection & Screening in compliance with Federal Regulations
  • DATIA Certified Lab Techs
  • *** DOT Testing ***

The lab does not specify how it first learned that they had a data security issue, but in December, they discovered that for those using the lab’s web portal,   information including full names and one or more of the following: Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and limited information related to type and result of lab test had been exposed or accessible between June 2, 2017 and October 13, 2021.

The lab has sent notifications to 14,528 people to inform them of the situation. It does not appear to be offering them any credit monitoring services if their SSN was involved.

To date, the lab claims that it is not aware of any reports of identity fraud or improper use of any information as a direct result of this incident.

The SCL lab is not a HIPAA-covered entity with repect to the information involved in this incident, SCL’s Director of Communications informed DataBreaches.net. He added that appropriate notifications have been provided under state law.
